Puerto de Mogán
Puerto de Mogán
Puerto de Mogán is a picturesque resort and fishing village in the municipality of Mogán, set at the mouth of a steep-sided valley on the southwest coast of the island of Gran Canaria and attracts many tourists either to stay or on day-visits. Canal-like channels linking the marina to the fishing harbour have led to it being nicknamed “Little Venice” or the “Venice of the Canaries”. Restaurants and bars fringe the marina and the beach front.

On a Friday there is a very popular market which brings in tourists from all over the island.
Puerto de Mogán has very few buildings over two storeys high, and the government of Gran Canaria restricts new buildings taller than this. Puerto de Mogán is linked with the motorway GC1 several kilometres to the east in Puerto Rico by means of a coastal road (GC-500), and is on several bus routes. The mountains almost surround the urban area of the town. The town is linked to Puerto Rico and Arguineguin by minor ferry routes from its small port, and is also a major stop for ocean going yachts beginning their journey across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. The smaller, mainly single-storey, homes and inaccessible streets are on the northern slopes; the larger inaccessible houses, a forest and a square lie in the northwest; and near the port and more to the northeast. There is a small enclosed beach which has golden sand imported from the Sahara. There are two or three hotels and many holiday apartments available for rent. .

Hotels, restaurants, taverns and villas are aligned with its beach. Playa del Inglés is linked with the old highway linking Puerto de Mogán and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and with the GC1 superhighway with an interchange to the north. Until the arrival of tourism, agriculture was the main industry in the area. Currently, after tourism, the leading industries are business and agriculture. The mountains can be seen to the north.

Barranco de guayadeque

Barranco de Guayadeque
The Barranco de Guayadeque is a spectacular canyon that stretches from the coast near Agüimes to the island’s center. As the valley deepens, the banana plantations are replaced by palm trees and cacti. After 3km, on the left side, is the new Archaeological Museum. After 5km, the Cuevas Bermejas (Purple Caves) are the first sign that once a Guanche population was living here. These caves are still inhabited today. The church is build in a newly made cave. The canyon walls rise to a height of 300m. After 8km the road ends at the Montaña de las Tierras. Here are several cave houses and a large cave restaurant. You can book coach tours to this restaurant in all tourist centers.
